The White Lotus Effect: Filming in Thailand Luxurious Resorts

Thailand

Thailand – Everyone has been buzzing about the hit comedy-drama The White Lotus since it first aired in 2021. Fans are eagerly waiting for the next season, which won’t air until 2025 because of delays caused by actors’ and writers’ strikes. Meanwhile, news about where the new season will be filmed is making fans more excited.

The show usually likes to make fun of rich Western travellers. The first season, set in Hawaii, explored themes of wealth and colonialism, while the second season in Sicily focused on money and sex. The upcoming third season is rumored to be filmed in Asia, with an emphasis on themes of death and Eastern spirituality.

Initially, the plan was to film in Japan, but in March 2023, they decided to film in Thailand instead. This was partly due to financial incentives given to attract filming projects. Thanks to these incentives, the project could save $4.4m on its $35m budget.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) recently confirmed this decision. They announced that The White Lotus would start filming in Bangkok, Phuket, and Ko Samui. Because of the show, these locations may expect a significant boost in tourism, just like Hawaii and Sicily after the first two seasons were filmed there.

Nobody knows exactly where in Thailand the third season will be filmed, but it’s likely to be done in luxurious resorts, just like the previous seasons. Some reports suggest that it might be filmed at the Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui and Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas, as well as an unnamed hotel in Bangkok. This is the first time the show will be filmed in several places.

The Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui is a top-rated hotel with a private beach, a large infinity pool, and private pool villas. Anantara, a luxury resort brand, is also a potential filming spot. Especially the Antantara Mai Khao Phuket villas, which has a beachfront infinity pool, a spa, and a Japanese restaurant built on a giant tree. However, these potential filming locations have not been confirmed yet.

Whatever the location, one thing is clear: The White Lotus effect is coming to Thailand soon. Tourists looking to visit these places before they become famous should book their trips as soon as possible.
